Information about MNC Coal competencies and the new RII ones:

Unlike certain trends, Coal Competencies are still fashionable

Generally the mining industry works on refresher training at least every five (5) years (CMS&H Regulation 84 (1)). So a competency obtained in 2007, say MNC.G1061 Operate Light Vehicle for example, requires to be refreshed by 2013 when it will be known as RII.VEH201A Operate Light Vehicle.

There are some variations to this theme of course (1) certain competencies may not be equivalent or (2) some companies may request that the MNC04 competencies be reassessed to RII competencies within a certain time frame.

But generally the MNC04 branded competencies are fine until their five (5) years (since being obtained) has been reached.

2010 Mine Deputy Program continues:

Do you want the opportunity to BE a Deputy?  The Certficate IV in Underground Coal Mining is the pre-requisite for applying to sit the Deputies Oral.  The next unit commences in August at Kyle St and will be held as tutorials each Thursday evening.  For more inforamation contact our office on 4982 0188.

Underground Mine Roadway Training Gallery:

Officially opened in May 2009 by the Mayor of Central Highlands Regional Council, the primary purpose of the gallery is to give a sound safety introduction to new-starters in a 'close as possible to realistic' environment.  This is a first for Queensland.  This is a first for the local underground coal industry.  This is a first for familes.  Finally.

If the Gallery improves the safety attitude of only a small number of workers in our industry it will be well worth the effort - Kerry Lennon, Principal.

• Firearms Safety (bookings essential!): a 1+1/2 day program will be offered each month for those needing this pre-requisite course to acquire a firearms licence from the QLD Police Weapons Licensing Branch.
